Chiropractors Open

Chiropractors Open From Monday 15th June 😀😀

Great News! Our chiropractors are now open for ALL treatments as of Monday 15th June.

We have a list of all the cancellations from the past 3 months and over the coming weeks we will be calling everyone and offering to reschedule your appointment. In the meantime, feel free to book an appointment yourself in the usual way, by calling 0113 3472801 or use our online booking

We will now be seeing acute and maintenance patients. However this is subject to individual risk assessment.

What does risk assessment mean?

If you are young, fit and healthy then there is a very low risk to you regarding covid 19. If you fit either of the descriptions below, it does not necessarily stop you from receiving treatment. But we will want to have a talk with you first about the risks. Your chiropractor, either Alison or Sarah, will call you beforehand to have a chat if you are:

  • Yourself or anyone you are living with are currently shielding then we may not recommend face to face treatment at this stage
  • Aged over 70 then depending on your general health we may not recommend face to face treatment at this stage

We are still offering our video consultations to those who may feel uncomfortable with face to face treatment. We also understand that whilst some patients will be excited that we are open again, others will be more cautious. That is okay, we understand and we are here for you as and when you decide it is an appropriate time to restart your care.

Read more about our Covid 19 Policy here.

If you have any questions about whether you should be coming in for treatment then please call us on 0113 3472801 and we will happily discuss your options. We put our patients first and we want to do everything we can to help you make the best decision.

Products to help back pain. Buy from Revive Chiropractic

Products to help back pain – now available

We now stock a range of products to help back pain. You can collect these directly from the clinic when you are in for treatment.

Products to help back pain

Ice packs

These great multiuse ice packs can also be used as heat packs. You can either put them in the freezer and use as an ice pack or put them in the microwave to use as a heat pack. A much tidier and more versatile version of your frozen peas and cheaper than the single use stick on heat pads. Ice packs and heat pads are great products to help back pain.

Ice is great for acute inflammation (less than 72 hours) whereas heat is much better for the majority of joint and muscles pains and definitely for any ongoing long term pain and stiffness.

Massage balls

“Spike” as they have been christened by one of my patients! Spiky massage balls are available in different sizes and relieve tension in large and small muscles. They are a great way of keeping muscles relaxed and pain free between treatment sessions. Simply roll on the massage ball over any knots for 30-60 seconds at a time.

Exercise bands

These also come in assorted colours that represent a different resistance. Green bands are the lightest and easiest and red bands offer a slightly harder workout.

You can use resistance bands to strengthen individual muscles as part of a rehab program. Because they are so small they are great for the home or the office so no excuse not to be doing your exercises. A great exercise for shoulder pain using an exercise band is this one

If you love the menthol smell and feeling of deep heat you will love biofreeze. Biofreeze is a topical analgesic (painkiller) that uses the cooling effect of menthol, a natural pain reliever, to sooth muscle and joint pain. It also penetrates the skin and leaves a cooling effect similar to applying ice.

Sissel produce a leading range of orthopaedic neck pillows. The pillows are specially contoured to support the curves of the neck and prevent neck tension as we sleep. The specially designed shape is designed to fit the anatomy of the spine. Sissel even offer a 5-year guarantee on shape retention.

Home Massager

Like spiky massage balls, this handheld massager is a great way of relieving tension in tight muscles. The vibrating massager has variable pressure settings and interchangeable heads. The larger head is great for working over larger muscles and the smaller head can pinpoint specific smaller spots.

Available to buy from Revive Chiropractic

Ice packs, spiky massage balls, orthopaedic pillows and biofreeze are all great products to help back pain. You can purchase them directly form the clinic. Feel free to ask for advice on how each of these products could help you to manage your back pain better.

Back pain advice for the festive season

Previous blogs have covered this topic. Please see these posts for help and advice for dealing with back pain over the holiday period.

Christmas Survival Guide

More back pain advice

  1. Remember that for any sprain/strain of the back you usually want to apply heat to the area. For the first 72 hours you may want to alternate a heat pack and an ice pack over the area for 20 minutes at a time and continue with whichever offers most relief.
  2. You need to keep moving. If you sit and do nothing the back will just stiffen up and prolong any recovery. Gentle exercise pottering about is the best.
  3. Consider taking ibuprofen and paracetamol for up to 5 days to help with pain relief. If you are unsure if you are able to take these over the counter medications please check first with your GP or pharmacist.
  4. AVOID any heavy lifting as this could cause additional injury to the back.
  5. DON’T lounge about on the sofa. Sit up properly with a cushion or towel rolled into your low back to offer support.
  6. Remember that most back pain, no matter how painful it may initally be will settle within a relatively short periof of times. Usually it will resolve within six weeks.

Changes To Clinic Hours

It has been a very busy start to the New Year here at Revive Chiropractic in North Leeds. The blog has been seriously neglected as I’ve been a busy chiropractor helping lots of patients but I’ve a few minutes spare today and thought it would be good to update you on a few things.

Changes to clinic hours

I changed my clinic hours back at the start of February and am now available at the following times:

Mon 12pm-6.30pm, Weds 8am-1pm, Thurs 12pm-7pm, Saturdays by appointment

This has allowed me to still offer early morning and late night chiropractic appointments but not be working 12 hour days. Feedback so far is that everyone is very happy with the arrangement but do let me know your thoughts. (Just in case anyone is thinking I’m lucky enough to have just a 3 day week then I’m working in another clinic in Wetherby on Tuesdays and Fridays!).

Remember we offer sports massage as well as chiropractic

Chiropractic treatment is great but it is not necessarily what everybody wants and so we have been offering sports massage alongside chiropractic treatment here at the clinic for over a year now. Sports massage is another great way to keep the body healthy and relaxed. Maybe you are considering sports massage yourself? Or maybe a friend, relative or colleague may benefit?

Sports massage can benefit the body in many ways

Sports massage can help maintain the body in generally better condition, prevent injuries and loss of mobility, help heal damaged tissue, help restore movement to damaged tissue and boost sporting performance.

Book a sports massage today

Sports massage sessions are available for either 30 minutes or 50 minutes. We would recommend the longer session if it is your first session as some time is required to take a brief case history before the massage begins. You can call 0113 347 2801 to book your session.

Online Booking Now Available

Revive Chiropractic now has online booking!! The alert among you may have noticed a recent change to your appointment confirmation and appointment reminders. This is because you are now able to view availability, book an appointment, and even reschedule your appointment online should the need arise.

New bookings can be made via the online bookings link on the homepage and to amend bookings you can do this via a link on the appointment confirmation/appointment reminder e-mail or SMS. Just click on the link and follow the on screen instructions (however please remember that any appointments cancelled within 24 hours’ notice may still incur a cancellation fee). If you just want to book an appointment e.g. you’ve not been in for a while then you can do this via the online booking link on the website.

It may be that the time you would like to book/re-schedule for is unavailable. Sometimes not all available appointments will be shown on the online booking schedule for  various reasons, or I may be able to squeeze you in at your preferred time. You can leave a message in the cancellation box requesting date/time for an appointment and I will get back to you or alternatively call/text me on 07828 686026 or call reception on 0113 347 2801. And of course if you would prefer to use the traditional method of simply picking up the phone and calling reception or calling e directly then you can continue to do so.

The aim is to make it quicker and easier for patients to book and reschedule appointments and to save you time rather than waiting for me to call you back. It also gives me more time to spend treating patients’ and getting patients’ feeling btter rather than checking my calls and e- mails! Please let me know what you think of the service and if any improvements can be made do let us know.

Sports Massage Now Available at Revive Chiropractic

Sports massage now available at Revive Chiropractic so get yourself booked in asap. Sports massage can really complement regular chiropractic treatment so read on f rmore about how sports massage could help your aches and pains.

Some of you may have noticed that the clinic was closed for a week in December and I was down in London. Contrary to popular belief I wasn’t doing my Christmas shopping but gaining a qualification in Sports Massage. I’m pleased to announce that in addition being a qualified chiropractor I am now a qualified Sports Massage Therapist. I will be offering both Chiropractic and Sports Massage at the clinic here in Adel, North Leeds.

I will be offering Sports Massage at the clinic at the following prices:

30 minutes £30

60 minutes £50

45 minutes combined chiropractic and sports massage £45

I have decided to broaden my knowledge in the field of Sports Massage because people like and need it! I treat quite a high number of active sports people, including runners, and this group of patients undoubtedly benefit from the combination of chiropractic treatment and sports massage.

Should I choose chiropractic or sports massage?

It depends on your problem. If you don’t have a specific injury and feel that it is just muscle tightness or you want a regular sports massage then this is for you. I will carry out a basic assessment at the first visit and then treat the required area(s) with hands on massage. Some general advice on stretching and strengthening may be given.

If you have a new problem or have a niggle that just isn’t going away then I would recommend a full chiropractic examination that will be more in depth and offer a more thorough examination and array of tests to determine the exact nature of your problem. Treatment may involve some sports massage techniques but will also likely involve manipulation of the spine.

Leeds Chiropractor Completes the 2013 BUPA Great North Run

It may have been wet and windy on Sunday but Leeds chiropractor here at Revive was up in Newcastle upon Tyne for the BUPA Great North Run.

After months of training and getting myself into shape I can honestly say all the training was worth it and I had a great day. Admittedly it could have been a little warmer, but the support was fantastic and there was a great atmosphere. Seeing the red arrows overhead as we crossed the start line was incredible. It also showed how far back we started, as TV coverage showed the red arrows flying over the Tyne Bridge, already packed with 100’s of runners, meanwhile we were over a mile behind still waiting to start!

We completed the race in 2 hours and 6 minutes which I’m quite happy with. It is quite hard to run fast with that many people on the road and you can only overtake people on pavements for so many miles before you just relax and enjoy the atmosphere. I soon realised that by weaving in and out of the crowds we were missing put on all the goodies being handed out by the generous crowd. The best free hand-out though has to be beer; although I can’t say it is easy to drinking beer whilst running!

I’m running the Nottingham half marathon in 2 weeks and will be looking to give it 100{8c34c0d03372d798e22443fa1cd79a4c0c458739bec8c1532104b8390ef42220} and take 10-15 minutes of my Great North Run time. We will soon find out if my confidence is misplaced.
